Ignacio Ramonet

Ignacio Ramonet, Director of Le Monde Diplomatique in Paris (a subsidiary of the prominent European newspaper Le Monde), is a leading voice of the European Left. He has a wide following both as a journalist and a public speaker. Born in Spain in 1943, Ramonet holds a doctorate in semiology and cultural history. He is instructor of communications theory at University Denis-Diderot (Paris). He is also an instructor associated with the University Carlos II in Madrid and the University of St. Petersburg (Polar Academy). This work was originally published by Galilée, Paris, 1997. Ramonet has authored many other works on the media and geopolitics including Chewing Gum of the Eyes (Alain Moreau, Paris 1981); Communication—Victim of Salesmen (La Découverte, Paris, 1989; How They Sell Us Motorbikes (with Noam Chomsky), Icaria, Barcelona, 1995; New Powers, New World Masters, Fides, Montreal; and others.    While he is a man for the future, he is not shy to point out where slap-dash modernization has hurt mankind, and he pleads for a thoughtful approach to the future that leaves us room to be human.
