A wealthy builder, a senator, and a philosopher engage in a broad ranging discussion one evening after dinner. Builder believes in one thing;power. Senator, on the other hand, has power but is tempered by belief in other things such as integrity. The philosopher, Director, leads their exploration of what power is and what it means for those who have it. Builder quickly learns philosophy isn;¢t exactly what he thought it was. But he can;¢t see the point of it. As he says, Ã?¢'¬Ã??I have an empire to lose. You have"¦ nothing.;¢ Builder despises those who don;¢t have his drive. Contrary to the method of most philosophers, Director acknowledges that Builder has a sort of internal consistency. But is consistency enough? In the end, will Builder take a step toward philosophy?
